"Big Skinny"

You stole my heart with a smile, and you broke it with a trigger pull
You seemed so put together, but you really had your hands full
Never feeling good enough, never living up to expectations
You thought that you were failing, when all you needed was some patience
And I wish that I had had that talk with you, where we share our secrets
Instead of them weighing down on you, you could trust me to keep it
You ask me where my scars are from, and I ask you why you want to leave
Why you’re tired of being here with us, why your heart is on your sleeve
You gave so much to us and maybe you took too much from yourself
You, ever longing to fulfill a purpose greater than yourself
I wish that there had been a better solution for you other than waiting
Waiting for something better to happen, instead of looking to John 3:16
If it was eternal life you desired, then eternal life you shall get
For you are the closest to any angel that I have ever met
And I miss you every moment, as days will turn to years
The remembrance of your memory can still bring me to tears
I would give anything to talk to you just one more time
Ask you all of the questions I wanted to before, when I convinced myself I’d do it some other time
I can’t forget your voice; I can’t forget your face
Nobody on this earth could ever take your place
For my heart is your home now, it is where I will always keep you
Until we meet again, stay young, stay smiling, stay true
