Saccharine Soldier

I come up behind you
And wrap my arms around you
And I rest my head on your shoulder
You turn into me and I want to be the holder
Of your heart forever
I will be your saccharine soldier
Both strong and sweet
Willing to fight and also willing to meet
You with patient understanding
And promise that you are never standing
Alone
And I have known
That I have been falling
Like your eyelids when they are tired, stalling
The inevitable look that you will give me
That tells me in my precious reverie
That those eyes were meant to look at me
This way
And when the twilight
Feels still and when the light
Is refracted on the walls of your apartment
And you are laying in my arms I am more aware
Of my heart than ever, more willing to dare
To leap to fall
To never mind at all
That days have burned on without notice
Days when all we know is us
Reading the poetry of your body
Of our legs intertwined, of perfection embodied
And the truest sentiment rings in my ears like distant drums
Like our heartbeats synced to the same rhythm
Raging against the setting sun
And you let me read
That you are falling in love with me
And I truly am so lucky
To have found someone who feels the same way as me
